Custom Metadata Panel – User-Defined Field Group

I’d love to have a customizable section within the Metadata panel where users can group their most frequently used fields — for example, Title, Headline, and Description.

Currently, these fields are spread across different IPTC sections, which makes it harder to view and edit related information quickly.

A user-defined metadata area (e.g. “My Metadata”) would let photographers choose exactly which IPTC or EXIF fields appear together.

This would be especially helpful for travel, press, and stock photographers who manage specific metadata fields on a regular basis.

A flexible, streamlined metadata view would make the Browse module much more efficient and user-friendly.

AI Culling

A feature I feel would be very popular, would be AI Culling of large sets of images, ie. Wedding with 5-7k images, as per software such as Aftershoot etc. This would not only save time and allow for larger volume of bookings, but would also take PR to the next level.

Sharpest Image Detection for Quick Culling

It would be cool if I could select 2-4 images, optionally select an area on one of the matching photos to test, and have On1 come back and tell me which of the 2-4 images is the sharpest in that area. That would make it quicker to cull shoots where you’ve taken multiple shots of the same scene, and just want to quickly pick the one that’s sharpest for the subject, and mark the rest of that set for deletion.

In the other preset sections, there is already an option to delete presets that are no longer needed. Unfortunately, this feature is currently missing in the MyStyle section.

Over time, many unused presets accumulate there, which can make it harder to keep things organized and continue working efficiently. Adding a delete option would greatly improve usability and preset management.

Restore the plus button on the mask panel

In the previous version, you could add gradient or other mask bugs using a plus button. However, in the new version that icon has disappeared. Restoring the button would be a positive change for user ability.

Filter Vignette

Among the effects, there is the Vignette filter (alternatively, you could use a gradient mask), but we’re focusing on the filter itself.
Here are two small suggestions that would significantly improve the filter’s functionality and usability.
1. Double-click the Style button (Subtle, Strong, Big Softy, Edges) to reset to the center of the image.
This is necessary if the center point has been moved.

2. The ability to display the vignette using a color overlay. This would make it much easier to adjust the size. Currently, this can only be done by setting the Soft Edge to zero.

I have been using On1 for over a decade and consider it a major part of my workflow. Recently, I have found it disconcerting that the Tips Module pop-up in On1 Photo Raw Max cannot be turned off.

On mobile, I have noticed there is no way to access tips / tutorials for every tool & that would make learning and new user access much smoother.

I would also like an option to make the masks permanately visible rather than only having the mask visible while actively applying it.

Histogram

As is well known, the histogram is an important parameter for achieving proper exposure during RAW development.
Unfortunately, it is fixed in the top-right corner of the Develop module.
Why can’t the histogram be displayed as an optional transparent overlay directly within the photo—similar to how it appears in the viewfinder or on the camera display?
In my opinion, this would significantly improve clarity and at the same time make it easier to assess the correct exposure.

Edit Panes – Differentiate by Colour from background On1 screen display

I’m sure I’m not the only one who looks for new features, ones I’ve not used previously, and I do not see it display on screen. In my case because I don’t know where it will be placed and my Mac displays these panels so quickly I just do not see it arrive.

Immediately I think “it does not work” then closer inspection shows it camouflaged amongst the existing display.

If ON1 thinks it technically possible.
I’d like these panes to show up more prominently against the display background by slightly changing their shade or colour. A coloured border in the user accent colour would help also.

This would do two things. The pane / changes could be found quicker. But importantly it would clearly differentiate the functional features used within the pane from the surrounding display.

This is just one example I have using Text Layers:

Canon cr3 files

I have a Canon R7 and if I shoot using pre-capture @ 30 FPS, Canon places all the photos from each burst into on filed called a roll. I downloaded their DPP4 software to extract the files and they end up being CR3 files. On1 does not recognize this file format. I have to bring the file into and older version of Photoshop Elements raw processer and then convert the file to a tiff before I can use On1. This ends up being not only a lot of work getting there but I also loose the ability to process my file in On1 as a raw image. I would love to see On1 ad Canon R7 cr3 files to their software. I have been using On1 since pre order of the first generation. I also pre ordered the On1 software that was used as a plug in for Photoshop Elements years ago with Matt Kloskowski and Dave Cross. I have loved On1 but this is very disappointing that they have not addressed this.

Make the curves filter (effect) a permanent part of the edit process.

Recently, I have found myself using the curves filter more and more as part of my basic workflow.

On occasion it is actually the first step in my workflow.

Currently, when I import new raw images, I first have to make sure the histogram is visible, that clipping is enabled, and then opening the curves filter in effects. This is all before I actually edit the image.

What would be really nice is to have the curves controls located within “Tone and Color” in the edit panel. Several other softwares have it that way.

Just a thought.

Make “right clicking” on a thumbnail behave the same on a dual monitor system

There are some “right click” options that are available on a dual monitor system that are available only if the thumbs are displayed on left monitor, for example, rename or send to another application.

I would like to suggest that right clicking on thumbs on either the left or right monitor should act and work the same.
